Mark Keller has been inspiring people since 2008 as Dr. Alexander Kahnweiler in the ZDF series “Der Bergdoktor”. He almost didn’t play, as he admits in a documentary.

However, fans of the successful series are already getting their money’s worth: In the documentary “Backstage – The Bergdoktor: The Gruber Family” (can be seen in the ZDFmediathek), the team provides exciting insights behind the scenes. The cast around Hans Sigl (55) also has their say. In the course of the documentary, co-star Mark Keller (59) reveals: He initially didn’t want to take part in “Bergdoktor”.

Hans Sigl reveals: “Bergdoktor” rivals became friends

Mark Keller is one of the “Bergdoktor” veterans and has been inspiring people since 2008 as the attractive head physician Dr. Alexander Kahnweiler the audience. The former “Let’s Dance” participant has become an integral part of the series. It was actually planned that the roles of Mark Keller and Hans Sigl would be opponents, says the 55-year-old in the documentary. However, that “didn’t really work,” explains Sigl. For this reason, they came up with the following idea: the characters should simply become best friends.

The Sigl and Keller constellation almost didn’t happen at all. “I rejected the role at the very beginning,” revealed the 59-year-old, “I didn’t want to do it because it was much too small.” He has now really taken a liking to his character Alexander Kahnweiler. “This role is fun for me because I have something to do,” laughs Keller. In addition, a deep friendship developed between him and his “Bergdoktor” colleague Hans Sigl.

“Since then, we have had a bond on many, many levels,” enthuses Hans Sigl. “There is hardly a colleague – actually no colleague – with whom I laugh as much and enjoy laughing as with him. It’s almost love, you could say.” This is also noticeable in the documentary: During filming, the “Bergdoktor” stars are just fooling around and in a great mood.

Mark Keller also spoke colorful.de about his friendship with Hans Sigl: “Hans has been a very pleasant colleague for sixteen years and I am grateful that I can film with him.” He particularly appreciates “his sense of humor and his mastery of the Baden dialect.” Another funny part of the series is the legendary greeting between the characters Martin Gruber and Alexander Kahnweiler.
