The cliffhanger ending of “Squid Game” season 2 explained – and what it means for the final 3rd season – Series News
The second “Squid Game” season ends much more openly than the first, as it was clear from the start that there would also be a third season. Let’s think about how this could continue.
In the finale of the first season of “Squid Game,” it was already teased that main character Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) now wants to get to the masterminds behind the deadly games he endured. Before that, the events of the season were given a fairly well-rounded conclusion. Things look a little different in season 2.
Developed in advance together with a final third season, the season ends quite abruptly in the middle of the action, albeit with an important turning point. The bloody uprising that Gi-hun instigated against the game organizers has failed. Although he and his colleagues were able to take out a few guards, in the end they were not only outnumbered and outnumbered in terms of equipment, but also had a traitor in their own ranks.
That’s why the frontman lets Gi-hun live (for now).
As in season 1, in season 2 one of those responsible for the perfidious children’s game competition secretly mingled with the players. While game creator Oh Il-nam (O Yeong-su) took part out of boredom and nostalgia before his impending death, Hwang In-ho (who is the front man responsible for organizing the games)Lee Byung-hun) this time probably introduced mainly out of fascination for Gi-hun.
Years ago, In-ho took part in the games on a regular basis and, after their traumatic course, was finally convinced that there are no really good people. That’s why he ultimately took on such a central role in organizing the tournament, to test more people and get rid of society’s outcasts.
The fact that Gi-hun now selflessly works to end the games and repeatedly risks his own life to help others contradicts In-ho’s disillusioned worldview. Therefore He seems seriously interested in how far Gi-hun gets with his project without him slipping into amoral abysses in the fight for survival.

No Ju-han / Netflix Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) rebellion was foiled.
For this reason, In-ho has taken his undercover support for Gi-hun very far and even accepted the death of some of his guards (whose lives don’t mean much to him anyway, as he has already demonstrated several times). But when Gi-hun and his friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan) come dangerously close to the control room – and thus the heart of the entire operation – In-ho decides to put an end to the whole thing and appear as the front man again . He crushes the uprising, kills Jung-bae in front of Gi-hun and has the latter taken into custody.
There are probably two reasons why he lets the instigator of the rebellion live: On the one hand, it is even greater torture for Gi-hun that he has to witness how not only Jung-bae, but also several others lost their lives as a result of the campaign he instigated. On the other hand, In-ho is and remains fascinated by Gi-hun and probably still has plans for him. But what exactly do they look like and what happens from here?
Teaser in the end credits scene: Will the deadly games continue in “Squid Game” Season 3?
We’re pretty sure: Despite the unforeseen tumult at the end of the second “Squid Game” season The games will continue in season 3. Because what would a season of “Squid Game” be without the brutal children’s games that characterize the series? Plus, now that they’re back in control, the frontman and his team probably don’t want to simply abandon the lavish competition after three out of six games. There are still enough people willing to play anyway and now they are even more clearly in the majority, since most of the insurgents who were killed were actually only those who wanted to end the games early.
And In fact, a mini-teaser in the end credits of season 2 already hints at a next gamewhich could be a variation of the opening game Red Light, Green Light. At least here we see the familiar robot girl Young-hee and apparently a male doll counterpart opposite her, before a light display jumps from red to green here too. What exactly this entails remains to be seen.

Netflix What’s the comeback of Young-hee and her new robot friend?
In addition, In-ho is probably now even more keen to see what Gi-hun will do after his bitter setback and whether he will still remain true to his honorable principles. He should also see a lot of potential for the VIPs’ bets if, like in season 1, they play a larger role in the further course. Because someone who competes in the games again as the winner and who rebels against them so energetically is likely to increase the entertainment value for the rich spectators once again.
It will also be exciting to see how Gi-hun reacts when he finds out that In-ho, aka Player No. 1, is actually behind the frontman’s mask. Because at the end of season 2, the latter had not yet revealed this to his supposed teammate, but rather made it appear over the radio that he had been killed. The big question in all of this will be: Does Gi-hun still have a chance of achieving his goal of putting an end to the games? Here his last hope could now rest on outside help.
The last hope for Gi-hun
It was actually planned from the start that police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) would finally be able to locate the “Squid Game” island using the tracking device in Gi-hun’s tooth and start an offensive from the outside with his task force. However, since the transmitter was found, this plan was quickly dismantled. But Jun-ho doesn’t give up and could soon stumble upon a new way to track down the island – and this could be the same one that has prevented exactly that so far.
Because as it turned out at the end of season 2, The ship captain, who has apparently so patiently supported Jun-ho in his desperate search for the island over the past few years, is in cahoots with the organizers of the games. So we see how he initially apparently sabotages the drone responsible for exploring the area and, when someone threatens to find out about him, throws them overboard. The captain must have secretly ensured that Jun-ho had not been successful in his plan so far.
But now that he has someone from his team on his conscience and was about to get caught, It’s probably only a matter of time before he’s exposed. And so Jun-ho would have someone on the hook who actually knows where the island in question is and from which he then tries to get this information out by all possible means. If he is successful, there could actually be a major attack and a lead-filled showdown on the island.

No Ju-han / Netflix Does Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) come to the rescue?
It could also be useful that, thanks to trans woman Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon), the players still have at least one rifle and plenty of ammunition with which to defend themselves in an emergency. And who knows: Maybe the guardian No-eul (Park Gyu-young) and his unexpected ally for Gi-hun’s troopsafter she has clashed with some fellow guards over the secret organ trade and they now also have the sick girl’s father, who was involved in the uprising, on his conscience and with whom No-eul had become a little friendly in the outside world.
Is “Squid Game” Season 3 already preparing for David Fincher’s US spin-off?
Since “Squid Game” will already end with the third season, it is very conceivable that Gi-hun and Co. will actually put an end to the Korean arm of the games. It is questionable whether they will actually hunt down the real masterminds behind the inhumane event.
Rather At the end it could be hinted that the whole thing is much bigger than expected and that (at least) one spin-off is already being initiated. As is now known, none other than David Fincher is said to be working on just such a spin-off. It shouldn’t be just a remake, but should be set in the same world as the original series and will therefore probably show that such games also exist in the USA.
