Secret Wars, Whether Hugh Jackman Does Or Not

Deadpool & Wolverine gave us a small glimpse of Henry Cavill as Wolverine, but I would love to see him back as the iconic Marvel character in Avengers: Secret Warswhether Hugh Jackman returns or not. Avengers: Secret Wars will be released on May 7, 2027, and will be the final film of Marvel Studios’ Multiverse Saga, which began in 2021 with the WandaVision television series. If the film follows a similar narrative to the story it is adapted, a number of characters across Marvel’s cinematic history could be making a return.

Dreams were finally realized when Henry Cavill appeared as a variant of Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine after years of rumors that he would be joining the MCU as the character. Despite his small amount of screen time, Cavill stood out among a plethora of others Deadpool & Wolverine cameos, showing that the casting could work, and he should get another opportunity to play the character. Avengers: Secret Wars is the perfect opportunity to bring Henry Cavill back as Wolverine.

Henry Cavill’s Wolverine Was Underused In Deadpool & Wolverine

Because of the nature of Deadpool & WolverineHenry Cavill was only featured in a brief scene where Deadpool was looking for a replacement Wolverine for his own universe. The scene itself is a lot of fun, with Wade Wilson alluding to the rumors over the years as well as how he was treated as Superman at Warner Bros. Cavill even got to do his arm-reloading move again, which he first did in Mission: Impossible – Fallout.

Mission: Impossible – Fallout was also partially responsible for the CGI-lip fiasco in Justice Leagueas Paramount apparently wouldn’t let him shave his mustache for that film’s reshoots.

Despite all the meta-humor that was present in Henry Cavill’s scene, it still didn’t feel like enough time was given for his portrayal as Wolverine. It makes sense given that Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine was one of the main focuses of the film, but Cavill is the only other actor to portray Logan in the movie, making it feel a bit more special than if it was just another variant of Jackman.

The MCU’s Multiverse Saga has made it possible for old fan favorites to return to their roles – something already shown with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s returns as Spider-Man. It also made it possible for actors who were once going to star as a character but never did to finally get the chance, like Channing Tatum appearing as Gambit. Without the multiverse, Henry Cavill’s Wolverine couldn’t exist in the same film where Hugh Jackman also plays the character.

Every Confirmed Cast Member In Avengers: Secret Wars (So Far)

Following some enormous revelations for the future of the Avengers at San Diego Comic-Con, the cast of Secret Wars is beginning to come together.

With Avengers: Secret Wars ending the Multiverse Saga, it is the perfect film to throw as much as possible on the screen and allow all these iterations of these iconic characters to coalesce into one movie. With Henry Cavill’s appearance as Wolverine being so well received, it stands to reason he would be one of the most viable candidates to return in Avengers: Secret Warswhich could be a dream come true for many fans of the MCU and the character.

Cavill’s Wolverine Return Is Better Than Any Recasting Alternative

Henry Cavill has routinely been a popular fancast for a number of characters in the MCU. This often centered around Wolverine, but the idea of him playing a character like Sentry or even someone like Captain Britain has been thrown around quite often. While a role like Captain Britain could be great, it doesn’t feel quite as potent a casting as him playing Wolverine.

Having him come across Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine could be amazing, and maybe act as a passing of the torch in some capacity.

Cavill’s return in Avengers: Secret Wars as a Wolverine variant is a better choice than him being recast as another character for the MCU. It just wouldn’t feel as exciting seeing the actor play any other character after already getting a small glimpse of him as Logan. Having him come across Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine could be amazing, and maybe act as a passing of the torch in some capacity.

Hugh Jackman is essentially synonymous with Wolverine at this point in time, but the excitement for Henry Cavill showing up as the character shows that audiences are willing to embrace a different actor in the role. Given how popular of an actor he is within fandoms, it makes sense that Marvel could find a place for him within the MCU, and Avengers: Secret Wars is the perfect opportunity to bring back the Cavillrine at least one more time.
