Layoff? Aaron Rodgers speaks out

Four wins from 15 games, a wave of layoffs and no more chance of the playoffs: The New York Jets’ season was catastrophic – regardless of the results in the two games still to be played.

The future of quarterback Aaron Rodgers is also uncertain. Touted as a savior, the veteran was unable to live up to the high expectations, especially at the start of the season.

As part of the “Pat McAfee Show”, the 41-year-old commented on his plans for the coming season; Rodgers is still contractually bound to the Jets next season. First, the former Packers quarterback would like to generally decide whether he wants to continue his career.

Rodgers wants to stay with Jets

Should Rodgers decide to play another NFL season, a new challenge could await him. “I think there’s a scenario where I’m released in a few weeks because the Jets want to go a different route,” Rodgers said.

At the same time, there is also a world in which the Jets would plan with Rodgers. The veteran himself wants to stay with the Jets. He is willing to accept salary cuts and, if necessary, take on a mentor role for a young quarterback.

The favor of owner Woody Johnson is likely to be crucial for Rodgers’ Jets future. The 77-year-old will have to fill both the positions of head coach and general manager for the coming season.

Jets: Rodgers with a little dig

It is currently unclear whether he would like to give the new regime a fresh start without Rodgers or rely on the veteran.

Johnson was recently criticized because, among other things, he was said to have rejected a player because his Madden rating was too low. In addition, his teenage sons are said to have a strong influence on his decisions.

This is also why Rodgers took a small swipe. “It would be the first time that I would be released. It would certainly be the first time that teenagers would release me.”
