Germans particularly enjoy listening to these ten songs
Christmas songs are played on almost every radio station in the run-up to Christmas. But which songs are popular with drivers? A survey provides information.
There are things that are part of almost every household in Germany at Christmas: Advent calendars, cookies – and of course a Christmas tree (there are a few things you should keep in mind as a driver when transporting it home). Of course, you can also do without one or two things if you don’t like them. It’s not that easy with Christmas carols – at least not when you listen to the radio. Hardly any broadcaster does without corresponding titles in the run-up to Christmas. But which songs are most popular among drivers?

English-language Christmas carols are particularly popular with drivers
According to a survey by the online platform Autoscout24 87 percent of Germans at least occasionally listen to or sing Christmas carols in the car. However, songs in German are not particularly popular: the top places in the ranking of the most popular Christmas songs among drivers are all English-language titles. Number 1 is not a big surprise: “Last Christmas” by Wham from 1984. Twelve Christmas titles were given to the survey participants to choose from for a ranking – six in German and six in English. Here are the top 10 from the survey:
1. Last Christmas – Wham |
2. Driving Home for Christmas – Chris Rea |
3. All I want for Christmas is you – Mariah Carey |
4. Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow! –Dean Martin |
5. Wonderful Dream – Melanie Thornton |
6. Merry Christmas everyone – Shakin’ Stevens |
7. Silent night, holy night |
8. Oh Christmas tree |
9. O you happy one |
10. The snow is falling quietly |
With children in the car, Christmas carols are more popular with the driver
According to the survey (among just over 1,000 car owners), listening to and singing Christmas carols in the car is more popular among those driving with children than among those traveling without children (89 to 85 percent). And German songs are also more popular among families with children than average: more than 60 percent sing or listen to “Silent Night, Holy Night,” and 58 percent “O Tannenbaum.”
Singing Christmas carols in the car is much more popular among women (64 percent) than among men (47 percent). While singing Christmas carols in the vehicle is not a problem, you should be careful with Christmas decorations in the car – because not everything is allowed.
