Fairy tales from East and West on TV

Every year we celebrate Christmas, and every year the third programs show Christmas films on repeat. At the forefront are British and American schmontzettes such as “The Little Lord” (1980) and “Isn’t Life Beautiful?” (1946). But Soviet classics such as “The Snow Queen” (1967), “Adventures in the Magic Forest” (1965) or “The Princess with the Golden Star” (1959) from the former Czechoslovakia (CSSR) also make a comeback every year. They show us that there were also imaginative fairy tale films in the so-called Eastern Bloc. The third Christmas programs create an East-West cultural exchange that should take place all year round.
