Attack in Magdeburg: Police apparently ignored information about Taleb A

Saxony-Anhalt police received a tip about the later suspected Magdeburg attacker more than a year ago – and apparently didn’t answer it. This is the result of MDR research on Monday. Accordingly, the tip about Taleb A. came in September 2023 from the same person who had previously contacted the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) and the Berlin police.

Both authorities declared themselves not responsible: the BAMF referred the case to the Berlin police; The Berlin police sent the whistleblower to the Magdeburg police. As the whistleblower told MDR INVESTIGATIV, unlike the BAMF and the police in Berlin, she never received an answer from Saxony-Anhalt’s police. Her message therefore contained the request: “Please answer, it’s very urgent” – in German: “Please answer, it’s very urgent.”

Please reply, it is very urgent.

According to the information, the information was sent to all three authorities via social networks, in the case of the Magdeburg authority via Instagram direct message. Screenshots of this are available to the MDR. They contain Taleb A.’s full name, place of residence and date of birth – as well as a reference to a tweet in which he asked his followers whether they would hold him responsible if he killed 20 Germans.
