Val Gardena (dpa) – The Swiss ski star Marco Odermatt celebrated his second victory of the season in the Alpine World Cup. One day after finishing third in the Super-G, the 27-year-old won the downhill in Val Gardena. On the traditional Saslong slope in South Tyrol, Odermatt was 0.45 seconds faster than his compatriot Franjo von Allmen. Another hundredth of a second back, Ryan Cochran-Siegle from the USA came third. Thanks to his success, Odermatt also took the lead in the overall World Cup, which he had recently won three times in a row.

Romed Baumann showed a convincing descent. In seventh place, 0.53 seconds behind the winner, the 38-year-old from Kiefersfelden achieved his best World Cup placement since second place in Soldeau in February 2023. Last season, Baumann achieved his best result of the winter by finishing ninth in Val Gardena. Luis Vogt, who was only 22 years old, finished in a good 17th place.
